How to choose a stone
There's no wrong way to pick a crystal. Some people choose by intention: grounding and protection, calm and peace, abundance, love, energy, or intuition. Others choose by chakra, matching a stone to the energy center they want to support. And some simply pick up the stone their hand keeps going back to. Caring for your stones
Most tumbled stones are easy keepers, but a few need a gentle hand. Selenite, Angelite, Honey Calcite and Lepidolite are soft and don't like water, so keep them dry. Never put Malachite or Chrysocolla in water or elixirs. Wash your hands after handling Sulphur Quartz and keep it away from little ones and pets. To cleanse any stone, rest it on Selenite (see our Ultimate Selenite Guide), pass it through a smoke cleanse, or set it out under the full moon.

The stone: Despite its name, African Turquoise is not turquoise at all. It is a speckled blue-green jasper, an opaque microcrystalline quartz, mottled with brown and black matrix.

Amazonite
Stone of Courage & Truth · Chakra: Throat, Heart
The stone: A blue-green variety of microcline feldspar whose color comes from traces of lead and water in the crystal. Notable sources include Brazil, Madagascar, Russia and Colorado.
Metaphysical Properties: Called the Stone of Courage and the Stone of Truth, Amazonite is traditionally used to calm worry, speak honestly and set clear, kind boundaries. In store now, online soon.
Angelite
Stone of Angelic Connection & Peace · Chakra: Throat, Crown
The stone: A soft blue form of anhydrite (calcium sulfate), mined mainly in Peru. It is a soft stone that slowly turns to gypsum when it gets wet, so keep it dry.
Metaphysical Properties: Traditionally used to open communication with angels and spirit guides, soothe anger and bring a deep sense of peace. A lovely companion for prayer, meditation and sleep.
Apache Tears
Stone of Emotional Healing & Grief Release · Chakra: Root
The stone: Small rounded nodules of obsidian, a natural volcanic glass, weathered out of perlite in the American Southwest. Held up to the light, they glow a translucent smoky brown.
Metaphysical Properties: Named for a legend of grief, Apache Tears are carried through loss and heavy seasons. They are traditionally said to comfort sorrow, release old pain and gently ground emotions.
Aquamarine
Stone of Courage & Clear Communication · Chakra: Throat, Heart
The stone: The blue to blue-green variety of beryl, colored by traces of iron and found in Brazil, Pakistan and Madagascar, among other places. At 7.5 to 8 in hardness, it is a durable stone.
Metaphysical Properties: Long tied to the sea and to sailors' protection, Aquamarine is traditionally used to calm the mind, encourage courage and help you speak your truth with clarity.

Black & White Onyx
Stone of Balance & Inner Strength · Chakra: Root
The stone: Onyx is banded chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of quartz. Black and white tumbled onyx is commonly color-enhanced to deepen the contrast, a long-standing practice with this stone.
Metaphysical Properties: Holding light and dark in one stone, it is traditionally used for balance, self-control and steady inner strength, especially during stressful times.
Black Network Agate

The stone: A dark agate (chalcedony) crossed by a web of fine white veins. Like many dark agates on the market, it is often color-enhanced to bring out the network pattern.

The stone: Known to mineralogists as schorl, the iron-rich member of the tourmaline family. Its long, striated crystals form in granites and pegmatites, with major sources in Brazil and Africa. Tourmaline also builds an electrical charge when heated or squeezed.

The stone: Also called heliotrope, Bloodstone is dark green chalcedony speckled with red spots of iron oxide (jasper), most often from India.

Blue Apatite

Chevron Amethyst
Stone of Intuition & Spiritual Growth · Chakra: Third Eye, Crown
The stone: Amethyst (purple quartz colored by iron and natural irradiation) layered with white quartz in V-shaped bands, mainly from Brazil and southern Africa.

Chrysocolla
Stone of Communication & Calm · Chakra: Throat, Heart
The stone: A blue-green copper silicate, often found mixed with malachite, turquoise or quartz in copper deposits in Peru, the Congo and Arizona. It is fairly soft.

Citrine

The stone: Yellow to golden quartz. Natural citrine is rare; most tumbled citrine on the market is amethyst that has been heat-treated to its warm golden color.

Clear Quartz
Stone of Clarity & Amplification · Chakra: All, especially Crown
The stone: Silicon dioxide, the most common mineral in Earth's crust, with a hardness of 7. Fine clear quartz comes from Brazil, Madagascar and Arkansas, among other places.
